About Me
My name is Ethan Opdahl. I am a professional guitarist based in San Diego. Music has brought me many amazing opportunities such as opening for large acts like Chon and Kenny G, performing with Grammy award winning musicians, releasing my own original music and more. For several years I have been teaching guitar, bass, and ukulele to students of all ages at a prominent lessons studio in Oceanside, Ca. I started Epic Guitar Lessons to make learning music fun, convenient, and accessible to everyone. I have experience performing and composing many styles of music, from rock, to jazz, fusion and even progressive metal. I attended the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music for Ethnomusicology, which helped expose me to an even wider array of musical traditions from around the world. My biggest passion is composing and producing instrumental guitar music. You can hear my music on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube, etc. by searching “Ethan 432”.
My Teaching Philosophy
Through my 17 years playing guitar, I’ve had many mentors in music. Learning from many teachers helped me see that not all lessons are the same. There are so many different teaching styles and pathways of learning, especially when it comes to guitar. Because of this, I work hard to teach in a way that fits your specific learning style and goals. I get to know what excites you about guitar, and create lessons around that. This makes progressing easy by keeping things fun and practical! I also help every student learn the basics of how music works and how to write their own music. I prepare ahead of each lesson to make sure we cover the right combination of technique, theory, and songs, to give you the best possible experience every time!
